Check Upper and Lower Face Together
Compare eyes and brows with the mouth and jaw. Mixed cues require more care than a single obvious feature.
Distinguish Intensity from Category
A subtle expression may use the same category as a stronger one. Do not create a different label only because the cue is faint.
Use the Available Options
Interpret the face within the label set shown. The best option may be broader than the word you would use in everyday conversation.
Do Not Carry One Uncertain Item Forward
After responding, release the previous face and begin the next image with a fresh scan.

How do you play E-Motions?
Observe the whole face, compare the eyes, brows, mouth and overall tension, review the available labels, and choose the best match.
Can a face always reveal a person's true emotion?
No. A still image lacks voice, context, culture, and personal history. This practice records the label selected for an image prompt and does not determine a person's true emotional state.
Does E-Motions measure empathy?
This practice does not produce an empathy score. It records completed prompts, response pace, and selected labels inside this independent exercise.
How can I tell similar emotions apart?
Use multiple facial regions and the exact options shown. Compare brow position, eye openness, mouth shape and tension.
Does this practice use my webcam?
