Learn what the task requires, what the independent practice targets, and why interface familiarity helps.
Scan a group of similar visual patterns, determine the rule shared by the majority, and click the one item that does not follow it.
Several tiles may look almost identical at first glance. Reliable decisions come from comparing specific features instead of relying on a general impression.
This practice focuses on visual search, pattern discrimination, attention to detail, and controlled decisions under time pressure. These are practice targets, not official employer score categories.
Compare the one-sample demo, full timed practice, and supported independent result summary.
The free demo shows one grid and lets you select the single outlier. It provides brief Correct or Incorrect feedback, but the sample is not saved to your practice history.
Premium practice uses a three-minute round with randomized visual challenges. Grid size, pattern similarity, and the feature that creates the outlier can vary, so you need to apply the same scan-and-compare routine repeatedly.
The result summary reports only performance inside this practice product. It is not a HireVue score, does not reveal an employer's scoring model, and cannot predict a hiring decision.
Move through the grid in a consistent order, such as left to right and top to bottom. A fixed route reduces repeated checking and missed tiles.
Check one property across all tiles before switching to another. Start with count or shape, then compare angle, size, color, position, spacing, or internal relationships only when needed.
State the difference mentally in a few words, such as one extra element or reversed angle. If you cannot explain why a tile breaks the pattern, verify it before clicking.
Build a reliable scan-identify-click routine before trying to shorten it. A fast guess is not useful when it lowers accuracy.
The result summary reports only activity from this independent practice. It is not an official HireVue score and cannot predict an employer decision.
The percentage of submitted challenges in which you selected the correct visual outlier.
Correct challenges select the single outlier. Incorrect challenges record a click on one of the patterns that follows the shared rule.
The total number of visual grids answered before the full-practice timer ended. Review this together with accuracy rather than treating volume alone as success.
The average time between a visual grid becoming interactive and your tile selection.
Practice results are independent feedback and are not an official HireVue score.

Practice the HireVue Shapedance gameTry one interactive Flashback sample and learn the visual-memory comparison format. Memorize an abstract pattern, compare it with a second image, and decide whether the two patterns match.
Practice the HireVue Flashback gameTry one interactive Puzzle sample and learn the image-reconstruction format. Study a complete picture, hold its major landmarks in mind, and rebuild the scrambled board without losing the global arrangement while focusing on individual tiles.
Practice the HireVue Puzzle gameSingularity is a visual odd-one-out task. A group of similar abstract patterns appears on the screen, and you identify the single item that does not follow the pattern shared by the rest.
Scan the full grid, identify what most tiles have in common, compare one visual feature at a time, and click the single pattern that breaks the shared rule.
Each challenge in this independent practice contains one intended outlier. An employer's assessment configuration may differ, so follow the instructions shown in your own assessment.
Practice challenges can use differences in color, shape count, angle, size, position, spacing, or relationships between internal elements. The relevant feature can change from one challenge to the next.
No. A bright or large tile may still follow the shared pattern. Confirm which specific feature is different before clicking.
The practice briefly displays Correct or Incorrect and then moves to the next challenge. A click submits the answer, so compare before selecting.
The free experience on this page is one interactive sample. Premium practice includes a three-minute timed round. An employer's assessment package and product version may differ.
This independent task can be used to practice visual search, pattern discrimination, attention to detail, and controlled response speed. These are practice targets, not official HireVue score categories.
There is no universal public passing score for every employer or role. Compare your own attempts using accuracy, completed challenges, and response time under the same practice conditions.
No. The interaction is simple: inspect a visual grid and click one tile. Useful preparation focuses on applying a consistent scan rather than developing general video-game skills.
